I am very thankful for all of you constant support and trust in teaching your children. We all have their best interest at heart and I appreciate all of your hard work that you do at home in helping students learn the importance of school and education. We will assess the unit in 2 parts. We will cover fraction basics and adding and subtracting fractions in December. After winter break, we will learn about multiplying and dividing fractions and will not test on those skills until February. Last week in unit 4A, we worked on making equivalent fractions. This SHOULD be a review for students. This week we will learn why we need equivalent fractions to add and subtract fractions. We will also learn how to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators. We will test over unit 4A on December 7th. Yellow Math: We are have started a new unit which will still cover algebraic expressions. In this unit, students will review how to translate expressions, solve for variables, and learn how to write and solve inequalities. So far, we have learned how to solve for a variable in algebraic expressions in both one and two step equations. This week, we will continue to work on this as well as review translating expressions. We will also learn how to write an equation using the direct variation equation (y=kx). We will test over this unit (6th grade unit 4) on December 7th. Science: Our science unit will cover Chemical and Physical changes. Students will learn more about matter and how matter changes. We have learned the important vocabulary terms related to chemical and physical changes and we will apply these in order to identify specific chemical and physical changes. Our date for this test is Friday, November 16th. If your chid is going to be absent on Friday, please encourage them to take their test on Thursday or before they leave.
