Happy Leap Day!!!
Check out updates below :) Picture day is TOMORROW! It is class picture and spring individual pictures. Boosterthon - Please keep in mind that all pledges are due MARCH 3rd. A note will come home with all students who got pledges tomorrow. Thank you so much to everyone who worked hard to get pledges!!! Milestone Madness- Students got a green form sent home last Friday. I asked them to put this in their binder behind their agenda. This is a new log-in to access their milestone madness tests through Fulton Connect. Students will need to enter a code to take the test and a different code to get the answers. Because this is different from perviously, I will still upload Milestone Madness to my website tomorrow. I will also send the new codes in an email tomorrow. I want to wait until we access it together in class so they know how to do it at home :). Sign and return papers- I apologize for not sending home sign and return papers last week. I was out sick Thursday and with reading extravaganza Friday, we haven't had time. They will come home tomorrow. Blue Math- TEST TOMORROW!!! This will cover measurement and volume. We will start our last unit this week. We will be learning about the coordinate plane and functions. Yellow Math- We will be starting unit 5 this week. This unit will cover Geometry. Social Studies- Our social studies test is WEDNESDAY. Because we don't have TAG this week, our test will be Wednesday for both AM and PM. Science- We will start another science unit this week. We will be learning about Chemical and Physical Changes. Test dates for all of the upcoming units are TBD.

Happy Friday!! Check out some important dates and updates below.
- Boosterthon has started! We will be reading this year to earn "laps". Friday, students will attend the book fit bowl where they will be able to answer trivia questions about some books. Each question they get right counts as a lap for their pledges. Please consider donating to this great cause. We are raising money for even more technology! Get pledges!! Thanks!! - Field Trip- Field trip forms and money are due Friday. Please make sure those get in by then. Yellow Math- Our Yellow math test is going to be pushed back a day. Instead of testing over unit 4 next tuesday, we will test on the following days. AM: Wednesday. PM: Thursday. This is because of TAG and some teaching time that has been lost with boosterthon. Blue Math- We have been working on measurement and line plots. We started learning about volume and we will continue to review all 3 of these topics. We will test over these topics next Tuesday, March 1st. Social Studies- We started our unit on World War II. We will be learning about the causes of the war, the different turning points, and how the war ended. This is a unit with some very sensitive material. We will be learning about Hitler and his actions. We will also briefly discuss the Holocaust. We have talked as a class about how some of the material is sensitive and they have all beed doing a great job handling the unit. Please make sure you discuss this with them at home as well. A few important NOTES
1.) A green form went home yesterday with the students. This is the official permission form with medical insurance information for the Wahsega trip. This green form is due by February 19th. The payment and any forms regarding medicines your child takes are due by Friday, February 26th. *If you have any questions regarding the field trip logistics, payment, meals etc. please let me know. This is a great opportunity for the students and they always have a blast! 2.) We have been experiencing some behavior and academic issues across the entire grade level. We know that a lot of exciting things have been and will continue to take place at school (such as middle school forms, field trip forms, Boosterthon, etc.). However, students need to continue to remember the appropriate behavior for 5th grade. Students need to be focused on their school work, worrying about their actions and be focused on being the best they can be. Some grade level examples of recent behaviors we have observed include: being involved with rumors and gossip, using inappropriate language, keeping hands, feet and other objects to ourselves, not following school wide rules and policies, a lack of effort causing a decrease in performance, and being more interested in socializing instead of learning. We are aware this does not apply to all students. However we want you to be aware of the preteen behaviors we are seeing before they spread and become a bigger issue. A good way to check up on your child and help reinforce the expected behaviors is to check your child’s green check register nightly. Thank you in advance for your support at home and helping us to reiterate the appropriate school rules to your child. We want to make sure each student has a wonderful end to their 5th grade year. 3.) Today, we received 8 new IPADs for each classroom. We have been reviewing the rules and regulations for proper technology usage in the classroom. This includes each student’s personal device as well. Students should be walking into the building with their device OFF in their backpacks. Once they are instructed to power the device on, it should AWALYS be in airplane mode. In airplane mode, students will then log on to the wifi here at school. When students are not using their device for instructional purposes they are to be powered down in either their lockers or the proper storage place. We have had some instances of students using technology at inappropriate times and in ways that are against the contract they signed at the beginning of the year. Students are to be using their devices for academic purposes only. This does NOT include texting, emailing, checking voicemail, sending Snapchats, posting on Instagram or playing non-educational games. If you have an important message that needs to be relayed to your child, we ask that you please contact the school. Students should not be using their device for correspondence during the school day. If students are breaking the contracts that were agreed upon, they will lose the privilege to bring them to school. Blue Math- we are continuing to learn about measurement. We have learned how to convert customary and metric measurements and have already been quizzed on that. (Quizzes should be sent home by Thursday). We are now reviewing what we know about line plots and then we will learn about volume. Our test will be Feb. 26th. Yellow Math- We have been learning about solving two step equations and have just begun learning about inequalities. We will continue to work on inequalities and discuss how to solve inequalities. We will have this test Feb 23rd. Science- We have been learning about electricity and magnetism. Students have investigated static electricity, electric circuits, magnets, and electromagnets. Quizzes went home today. Please use these to study for the test that we will have on THURSDAY. There are also notes linked to my website under the science class. Students loved the snow today! We kept the blinds open all day so we could work and watch a winter wonderland :). |
