Good Morning!
A few reminders for this week: 1. Jekyll forms and the last payment are due on Feb. 9th, next Thursday. I hope everyone is getting excited for the trip!!! 2. International Day is next Wednesday, Feb. 8th. Students may dress up if they would like! 3. Please remember to check Class Dojo and SeeSaw regularly for student updates. Behavior is noted on Class Dojo and SeeSaw is where students can highlight their work. They are finishing up posting some awesome news reports this week! Blue Math- Blue math has just started Unit 6. We will be working on measurement and volume. When working with measurement conversions, we will work with customary and metric measurements. This is hard for many students so please make sure they are practicing at home through their homework or TenMarks. Our test over this unit will be Feb. 24th. Yellow Math- Yellow math is finishing up 6th grade Unit 1. This was a very big unit full of review and some new information. They will have a study guide coming home on Wednesday and their unit signed papers on Thursday. We will also be having out quiz over this big unit this week with our test next Thursday, Feb. 9th. The skills they will be assessed on are decimal operations, fraction operations, LCM, GCF, and the distributive property. Science- We started Chemical and Physical changes last week in class. Students have already learned the difference between these two changes and even got to watch Bill Nye explain chemical reactions and show them some cool chemical reactions. We will have our science quiz on Friday and our test over this short unit next Wednesday, Feb. 8th. Please make sure students are reviewing vocabulary nightly. I hope everyone plans to watch the Falcons in the Super Bowl on Sunday!!! We will have a math lesson with the game to go along with our STEM project on Monday after the big game!

Don't forget that this week is PIE WARS!!! I have volunteered to be a contestant so if I raise the most money, I win a pie to the face.... Yayyy! I have a bin in the front of the school where students can donate! Tomorrow is the 100th day of school! Students can dress up with the them of "100"!! Wednesday evening will be the Autry Mill Middle School meeting. Students will come home with a form on the 25th of their tentative placements. Please bring these with you to the middle school meeting. They are a good resource. They are due back on Friday. Our 5th grade panoramic picture will be this Thursday. I have the shirts that the students will wear and will have them change before the picture on Thursday. Do you LOVE to read? Well, so do we! Please join Dolvin Elementary in celebrating the Love of Reading Day on February 14, 2017! You are encouraged to dress as your favorite book character or come in your pajamas so that you can cozy up and read! All classes will be participating in reading-themed activities throughout the day. Bring your favorite books to share with others and get ready to celebrate the love of reading! Social Studies- We will be having our Social Studies test on Wednesday. Students have notes in the notebooks. The text book is also another great resource to study. Science- After our SS test on Wednesday, we will start our Science unit over physical and chemical changes. Blue Math- We have been working the past two weeks on 2-D shapes. We will have our test over this unit on Friday. Students should be able to identify the attributes of quadrilaterals and triangles. Yellow Math- We are still working on unit 1. We are now moving onto the new skills of finding least common multiples and greatest common factors. Good afternoon!

Information will be shared regarding course offerings and academic pathways for the 2017-2018 schoolyear. We hope you can attend. Autrey Mill Middle School 4110 Old Alabama Road Johns Creek, GA 30022 470.254.7622 Blue Math- We will continue our unit 5 work on 2-d shapes. Students will learn how to arrange shapes into a hierarchy this week as well as learn about the different types of triangles. They will have a math test next Friday, January 27th over this unit. Yellow Math- We will continue to review all 4 operations with whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. I am seeing students really struggle with this review. They need to be completing their homework nightly and coming to ask me questions in the morning should they have any. THIS IS A VERY DIFFICULT UNIT. They need to be responsible and work hard. They will be tested over this 6th Grade Unit 1 material on February 9th. Social Studies- We will continue learning about the Great Depression and how it impacted the lives of Americans. We will also learn about FDR and his New Deal programs. Our Social Studies test will be next Wednesday, January 25th. Welcome Back!
I hope everyone had a great break with family and friends. I know I did and I got to enjoy a little bit of snow there at the end :) This semester will be a big semester preparing students for middle school. They will be held to higher expectations when it comes to organization, drive, and responsibility. Please make sure you are holding them to these high standards at home as well. We will also learn how to find Least Common Multiples, Greatest Common Factors, and the Distributive Property. Our test over this unit will be Feb. 7th. Social Studies- We are now learning about the Great Depression. We will learn about the 1930's and how people delt with the depression. We will also learn how the government helped with the New Deal programs. Our test over this unit will be January 25th. |
