Good morning!
I hope everyone had a great break spent with family and friends. I know I did :). I had some time to reflect over break and I just want to say how thankful I am for all of my students and their parents. While these children are only in my room for 10 months, they are your walking legacy forever. I only hope to help them along the way when ever they need me. They make me smile in some way every day and for that, I am thankful. They are kind to each other and are so smart! It gives me hope for the future. Thank you for allowing me to help influence your child. I am so grateful. Only 3 more weeks left of the semester! Yikes! Where did the time go!! At the bottom of this post, you will find dates for all upcoming Tests AND QUIZZES. Blue math especially has several quizzes. I am so sorry this is going out late this week! Here are some reminders for the rest of the week.
Friday- Students may wear a mustache if they donate a dollar to relay for life. How ever much money my class raises throughout the year is how many laps I have to do at the Relay For Life event in the spring :) I hope everyone has fun with this and wears a mustache! (It can be a stick on or mustache pants or shirts etc.) Yellow math- We have been reviewing decimals and fractions which we learned previously. We just started learning about finding the Greatest Common Factor and Least Common Multiple. We will practice finding these using prime factorization. Notes/videos/etc can be found on the yellow math tab of this website. Blue math- We have been reviewing what we learned about fractions in 4th grade. We will start adding and subtracting fractions with unlike denominators. We will be learning about adding and subtracting fractions throughout the next week. By next Friday, we will be able to add and subtract mixed numbers using models and the algorithm. Science- We have been learning about heredity for the past week and a half. Students know the difference between inherited traits and instincts, and learned behaviors . Their test over this will be Friday. Their Heredity project (Tic Tac Toe) will be due MONDAY. (This due date is a change. I will tell them about this tomorrow). Good Evening!
I apologize that this is coming out so late. I am just now getting a minute back at my computer. Check below for some updates for the week! This months mindset is Live to Give. November is a great month to be learning about the power of giving. We will be having a food drive. We have set a goal for our class. We hope to bring in 100 cans. Please help us reach our goal by bringing in some canned food. Friday is Fall Family Fun Night! It will be a great night of fun and games! I hope t osee everyone there! Social Studies- We have our test over the Turn of the Century tomorrow. With the end of this unit, comes a new Science unit on Heredity. More information on that to come. Yellow Math- We have finished up Unit 7 and are starting Unit 1 6th grade this week. This is a review unit which will cover adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. Please make sure students are reviewing at home with IXL or other online math resources focused on these topics. The test is tentatively scheduled for November 20th. Blue Math- We will be finishing up Unit 3 this week with the test on Thursday. Please have students be reviewing multiplying and dividing decimals. This includes multiplying and dividing by powers of 10. We have been working on this skill for awhile and most students have grasped the concept. If your child is still struggling with this, please review it with them. Please always remember that I am always here for my students and their families. If there is anything I can do to help a student succeed, I will do it. In return, I ask that you work with them at home as well. Show them that you want them to succeed and that you will help them get there. I am blessed with a great group of students this year with incredible potential. |
