Good evening! I hope everyone had an amazing Thanksgiving full of friends, family, and fun! I was thankful to see all my 5th graders again today :)
There are some important updates so please read EVERYTHING below! 1. Jekyll Trip- Jekyll permission forms went home the Friday before break. They have a pink permission form which needs to be turned in by next Tuesday with either a first payment installment of $125 or the whole payment of $250. You will get more detailed information later this week. If you have any immediate questions, don't hesitate to ask! 2. Relay for life events- as one of the relay for life team members, I would love our class to participate in two upcoming events. The first event his this Wednesday and it mustache day! Students can wear blue and your favorite mustache gear with a donation of $1 or more. Keep in mind that how ever much money our class raises, that is how many laps I have do complete at the relay for life event :). The second event is next Friday, December 9th. It is KIDS NIGHT OUT! Take a night off (from 4-8) and let us hang out with the kids after school. A flyer will be sent home tomorrow to sign up. Blue Math: Unit 4 parent letter We are currently learning about fractions. We spent the week before thanksgiving learning fraction basics. We will work this week on adding and subtracting fractions. Students will have to add and subtract fractions and mixed numbers with unlike denominators. Our quiz will be this week so please make sure they are doing their homework and studying. We will have our test December 16th over adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. Yellow Math: Unit 7 parent letter We have been working on coordinate planes. We have learned about all of the parts of the coordinate plane and how to plot ordered pairs on the coordinate plane. We have just introduced input output tables and we will continue to work with real world functions. There will be a quiz this week so please make sure they are doing their homework and studying. We will have our test December 16th over the coordinate plane and graphing 1 and 2 step functions. Science: We have been learning about electricity and magnetism. Students should have already completed this whole chapter in their workbooks and may use those as notes. There are also notes we have gone over together in class that are attached on my website. We will have our test over this unit on Thursday. Please make sure students study throughout the week.

I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful fall weather! I know the kids enjoy it at recess. Check below for some class updates.
Don't forget to donate to our class fund. This is how we will pay for the winter party and end of the year party. Our class had their first DOJO rewards day last Monday. Ask them what kinds of prizes they earned and how they plan to earn more next quarter! Blue Math- We will have our test on Thursday, November 10th. This will cover multiplying and dividing decimals. It will also include multiplying and dividing by powers of 10. Students took home a study guide and the answer key can be found on my website under their current math unit. Yellow Math- We will have our test on Thursday, November 10th. This will cover volume and measurement. You will need to convert measurements in the customary and metric measurement systems. You will NOT need to convert from customary to metric. You will need to know how to find the volume of 3D rectangular prisms by counting cubes, or using the equation. This will include complex rectangular prisms with multiply parts or layers. Your study guide key is also online under your current math unit's page. SS- Students will have their SS test on Friday. It will cover the Turn of the Century which includes: industrial revolution, cattle drives, moving west, and a map. We will do the map in class on Wednesday. Students already have their study guide and can find the answers in their notes or in their book. Some answers are already filled in online under the current ss unit. |
