Happy Monday!
There are several announcements below about 5th grade so PLEASE read! Field Trip- As you know, our Wahsega Field Trip is coming up. We need all YELLOW permission forms turned in by next Friday 2/5 so we can tell them camp our numbers and plan accordingly. Money and medical forms will be accepted until later in February. We will also be sending home a few more forms to be filled out including insurance and a movie permission form. Those should come out later this week. 5th Grade Picture- Our big 5th grade picture will be February 3rd (WEDNESDAY). Please make sure you child wears or brings jeans to wear for the picture. We have our 5th grade t-shirts which we will give to them to wear at the time of the picture. They can take the shirts home after that. Science- We just started our electricity and magnetism unit. Students have already learned about static electricity and conductors and insulators. We will also be learning about the different types of electric circuits and the difference between bar magnets and electromagnets. Test date for this unit is scheduled for February 11th. Blue Math- We have just started our measurement and volume unit. Students will learn how to convert measurements in both customary and metric measurements. They will NOT have to convert between the two different systems, just within. We will also be learning about how to find the volume of a 3D figure. Our test for this unit is scheduled for February 26th. Yellow Math- Our units are getting more and more algebraic. Luckily, I LOVE algebra! However, this is a very difficult concept to catch onto. Please make sure you are reviewing with your child. We are currently reviewing how to solve equations that have two steps. We will then learn about inequalities, solving inequalities, and graphing inequalities on a number line. Lastly, we will be using unit rates to problem solve. Our test is scheduled for February 22nd.

Good afternoon!
Check below for some weekly updates. *Blue Math Test date changed to next Tuesday, 1/26 With second semester upon us and middle school right around the corner, student expectations are going up. I hope that after a semester of modeling the expectations, students will take the responsibility into their own hands. Please encourage these raised expectations at home as well. Social Studies: Our social studies test will be this Friday. Please make sure students are reviewing their notes nightly. This unit covered the Great Depression, The New Deal, and entertainment during the 1930's. Blue Math: Our test has been pushed back until next Tuesday, 1/26. We have covered the different attributes of all quadrilaterals and triangles. Please make sure students are reviewing notes nightly and practicing. Creating shape riddles is a great way to practice learning the attributes of shapes! Yellow Math: Our math test will be next Tuesday 1/26 covering algebraic expressions, different math properties (distributive, commutative, and associative), and GCF and LCM. Some of these are review topics from a previous unit but make sure students are reviewing their notes nightly! Good afternoon! Check out some important dates and information below :).
5th grade will be taking their field trip to Wahsega in March. 5th grade teachers would like to invite all parents to an informational meeting regarding our field trip to Wahsega. The dates of the trip are March 21-23, 2016. The meeting will be held in the Cafeteria, on January 26 from 6:00pm-6:30pm. We hope to see you there. This week has already been a great week with the school spelling bee yesterday and a visit from the science machine today! I am sure they will all go home and try some experiments. Here are some more things going on this week. Blue Math: We have started our geometry unit on 2D shapes. Students will need to know the attributes of the different quadrilaterals and triangles. This is a very wordy unit so please be practicing with them nightly. They have notes in their math notebook describing all of the shapes. We will test over this information next Thursday (1/21). Yellow Math: We have started our unit on algebraic expressions. Students will learn about the different parts in an algebraic expression and how to solve an equation containing variables. We will also be learning about the different mathematical properties (distributive, commutative, etc.) We will test over this unit on Tuesday 1/26. Social Studies: We have been learning about the Great Depression. In this unit, we will learn about the causes of the Great Depression, the effects of the Great Depression, and how the Great Depression ended. They will need to know about the presidents who were leaders during this time period. They will need to know about the New Deal and the programs involved in helping the Great Depression end. We will test over this information next Friday, 1/ 22. |
