Only a few short days until winter break!
As we lead up to break, students will be finishing up any units they are still working on which could mean several tests this week. Please encourage your child to end the year strong and continue to try their best. We will do our best to make sure they don't get overwhelmed which should not be a problem as long as they work hard. End of the semester curriculum updates: Math: All students should have finished/is finishing up their last math unit of the semester. We will be doing a review of the review of the prioritized standards they hopefully mastered in this first semester. This will help students to self assess their learning and make their goals for the upcoming semester. Social Studies: Due to the two hour delay and earthquake activity last week, we were not able to take our Social Studies test on Friday. We will be taking our Social Studies test on Wednesday, December 19th. If your child will not be at school that day, they will take the test Tuesday, December 18th.

Good morning!
I hope everyone enjoyed sleeping in today :). Please check below for some important weekly updates. Curriculum Updates: Blue Math: We are working on our unit on FRACTIONS! This is our hardest unit of the year and it is the most important. Our milestones are weighted 30-40% in fractions. We will assess the unit in 2 parts. We will cover fraction basics and adding and subtracting fractions in December. After winter break, we will learn about multiplying and dividing fractions and will not test on those skills until February. So far in unit 4A, we worked on making equivalent fractions. This SHOULD be a review for students. We also learned why we need equivalent fractions to add and subtract fractions. We learned how to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators. Last week we worked on adding and subtracting mixed numbers. Many student have done great and mastered all of these topics! Some students are still in need of some review. Our test this week will be done on flexible pacing. This means students may take their test any day between Wednesday and Friday. Yellow Math: We are continuing a unit which will covers algebraic expressions. In this unit, students will review how to translate expressions, solve for variables, and learn how to write and solve inequalities. So far, we have learned how to solve for a variable in algebraic expressions in both one and two step equations and how to write and solve inequalities. Last week, we leanred how to write an equation using the direct variation equation (y=kx). We will continue to review these topics this week. Many student have done great and mastered all of these topics! Some students are still in need of some review. Our test this week will be done on flexible pacing.
