Good Afternoon! We did it! Pig lab is done and was a huge success! I really believe I saw some future surgeons in our midst! Even those who were squeamish, learned! That is all you can ask for and we got it! To those kids and parents at home, I have seen some of the models and videos...exceptional work! We are now moving into our last unit on genetics. It really is such a fun unit and the kids love it! This week we start out with DNA. With that we have 2 labs. One is to see if there was a substitution in DNA and they are a taster or not. Be sure and ask them about it on Wednesday evening. The next one is where they will separate out the DNA from a strawberry...yes, real DNA and they will see it and hold it! I have attached the lab for virtual parents and kids. Please make sure that you have the items for the lab by Friday for your student to actively participate. Remote students can follow along with what we are doing in class. I will have my camera on demonstrating what we are looking at in the lab. This will be a formative assessment grade. The lab report and questions (attached) must be completed by all students. Please note these differences: No cheesecloth- use a coffee filter No funnel ; a cup instead (plastic small clear if possible) No vial craftstick (popsicle) Alcohol is isopropyl and needs to be 90% and cold For here at school, we are asking for donations for the following: paper towels (used them all during dissection) alcohol - isopropyl 90% small baggies that seal well Clorox wipes (again gone after pig lab)
