Kindness Month!
Thursday, 10/29
By now I think you have heard that tomorrow is a remote learning day. Students will not attend class at school. There will be no live meetings and students should check their class teams for the work their teaches wants them to complete.
For Life Science today, you need to finish up your choice board on Evolution!! Make sure to finish this and get it turned in so you can participate in our Halloween Science Lab on Friday!

I will attach the choice board below for reference for all parents. Students, remember this choice board is located in our assignments channel and is called "10/14-10/29 Evolution Choice Board 2". Just a few added reminders:
- If you had to complete a reassessment for the first choice board, that will count towards 10 points on your choice board .
- On 10/27, I added an additional option for 15 points. This is the Assessment in Illuminate called "L5A & L5B Evolution Personalized Learning Assessment"
Hello parents!
Please take about 3 minutes to read a short update of student expectations and our current project.
*We will be doing a Teddy Graham lab on Tuesday 10/20. This is an optional lab which will go towards student choice boards. If your child is in remote learning and would like to participate in this lab, you may need to pick up a box of Teddy Grahams before class on Tuesday.
Our first (half) week of phase 5 was great! I have loved getting to know all of your children in this first quarter of school. It has been a crazy start to the year with changes happening weekly. Phase 5 brings us consistency with students either coming to school or attending classes remotely. With consistency comes a better understanding of day to day tasks and assignments.

Student Expectations:
Please make sure you review the expectations for remote and face-to-face students in my class below. It is important that students strive to meet these expectations in order to work towards an awesome rest of the school year.
Remote Learner Expectations:
Remote Learner Expectations:
- I will be on time for class. (As a remote student, the best way to ensure I will be on time it to be logged on and ready 2 minutes before my class begins)
- I will turn on my camera during class so my teacher can see that I am engaged with the lesson and focused on my learning
- I will answer verbally when called on by my teacher.
- I will remain logged on to class until dismissed by the teacher.
- I will work from a good workspace which is quiet, has no/limited distractions and has all my needed class supplies. (For some students, a good workspace might include somewhere where they can be supervised by an adult to keep them on task.)
- I will ask permission to “leave” (walk away) from “class” (my computer) to use the restroom or for any other reason during class.
- I will report any technology/internet problems asap to the technology hotline. Contact the Universal Remote Learning Hotline from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. at 470-254-2300. https://www.fultonschools.org/UniversalRemoteLearning
- I will send absent or tardy attendance notes to all my teachers and the front office.
- I will make up any assignments from days where I was experiencing technology issues, excused absences, unexcused absences, etc.
- Siblings that may distract us from our learning
- Pets that may distract us from our learning
- Adult supervision
- The internet
- Device problems
- I understand that these variables are now only in my control in the remote learning environment.
- I will practice social distancing at all times at school.
- I will wear a mask at all times unless I am eating or drinking or outside during a mask break.
- I will use hand sanitized often and wash my hands with soap and water often.
- I will bring my device to school charged and bring my charger to recharge during the day.
- I will bring the following to school every day:
- A water bottle
- An extra mask
- A light towel for eating outdoors
- Headphones/ear buds
Assignment/Task Tracker:
Students have access to a weekly agenda in their Class Notebook OneNote. It is located in the Content Library--> Agenda--> Organized by week. Below, you will see an example of what this agenda looks like.
Choice Board Project:
Students have been working choice boards to demonstrate their learning of our standards and units. We will complete all of the "Mandatory" assignments together in class but students are still responsible for following along and completing their own work as we work together in class. They will also be responsible for completing a variety of choice activities to earn a total of 100 points. The total points they earn will be counted as their TEST for this unit and will be entered in the gradebook as a Summative Assessment grade. This project is due 10/29. You can find the choice board attached below.

Happy Monday Parents and Students!
Last week we finished part 1 of our unit on Classification. As I told students on Friday, if they did not show mastery (scoring <80%), students may take part in a retest on Wednesday. Students should email me if they plan on participating in this test retake. Students who scored <70% will be invited to take a re-take as well.
This week, we are going to be focusing on the characteristics of each Domain and Kingdom.
We will be completing the notes on the attachment below throughout the week. I know some students like to print out the notes instead of using OneNote so I will provide these available downloads here.
We will also be starting out first project this week! I have attached the rubric and information below if any students want it printed out. You will also find some example projects below as well.
As always, let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns :).

1. Start here! Watch the video below
2. Read pages 52-64 and answer questions 1-6 on page 69.
Don't forget that we start our new schedule this week. Classes will be 5 minutes shorter and Wednesday will now be a catch up day. There will be no live meetings on Wednesday. Students should use this time to get caught up and/or study. I will be available to meet with students as well.
Today in class, we will be watching the below video and taking notes on the pages also listed below. If your child prefers to take notes on paper, please feel free to download the notes and print them out. This is completely optional! I am trying to ensure I meet the needs of all my students during our time in remote learning. These notes are also available in student's sections of our Class Notebook in OneNote.

Hello! Welcome! and Happy Monday!
I wanted to make sure to introduce myself to all of my parents and guardians out there. My name is Colleen Greathouse and I teach your child for either Compass or Life Science (or both) this year. I had an amazing first week of school and have loved getting to know my students! They have done an amazing job communicating with me any problems they have been having and have even already all collaborated on a presentation of virtual lockers! I hope everyone is ready for week 2!
I understand the struggles that can come with Universal Remote Learning and I am here to support you in any way I can. I see many positives in Universal Remote Learning like the ability to even continue to teach remotely using technology, and all of the amazing new things we are all learning. We are in this together!
I wanted to provide you with a little bit of information about how I will communicate with you and how you can communicate with as needed.

- Anytime I send communication through Infinate Campus, I will also post that communication to this website. You can reference the information here at any time!
- I am available through email and will respond with 24 hours during the work week.
- I will communicate with your student in Teams as well as their Outlook email. (They have done a great job learning or reviewing how to use these tools this week!)
Teams
Teams is an amazing beast! It is an amazing tool for education and I am grateful we have access to such a platform. They are continuing to work out bugs and teams related issues. With a little bit of patience, I am confident Teams will be a tool your students grow to love.
I know Teams can be difficult to navigate so please check out this Tour of Teams to help you and your student better understand how things will be organized and where you can find important information, assignments, class recordings, etc.
