Good afternoon! Please check the information below for some important class updates :) Book Fair! The Dolvin Book Fair will be next week. My homeroom class will go browse the books and make a "wish list" on Thursday of this week (9/6). We will have an opportunity to buy books on Tuesday, September 11th. If you want your child to purchase books, please provide them with the money needed on that day. Media Center News! This link has information about the book fair. Fall conferences: It's that time of year again! Please sign up for a conference with your child's HOMEROOM teacher. We ask that you only sign up for a conference with their homeroom teacher at this time and if a meeting with their PM teacher is necessary, you contact the teacher directly to set up a time later. Below is the link to sign up for Ms. Greathouse's homeroom students: CONFERENCE SIGN UP Curriculum Updates:
I appreciate all of your understanding throughout the beginning of the school year. I have absolutely loved getting to know all of my new students and I know it is going to be a great year! Due to some unexpected and new school procedures, my pacing plan for this first math unit has changed several times. Again, I appreciate your understanding. Please check below to know when your child's math test will be (hint* It has changed one last time :) ) Blue Math- We are working on whole numbers and order of operations. So far, we have covered multiplying whole numbers, reviewed place value and reviewed division strategies (partial quotients and long division). We will review the Order of Operations and how to translate and compare expressions this week. Please make sure your child is studying nightly. Our first unit test will be September 12th. Remember, quizzes are unannounced. Yellow Math- We are working on number fluency. In this unit we will review how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. We have already reviewed all operations with decimals, fractions, and whole numbers. This week, we will review dividing fractions. This is a very rich unit that should be a review. If your child is struggling with computation, they need to practice at home and come see me in the mornings (during commons time) for extra help. We will learn how to find the greatest common factor, least common multiple, and use the distributive property this week. Our test over this unit will be September 12th. Remember, quizzes are unannounced. Social Studies- We are working on our first Social Studies unit over the Industrial Revolution and the Turn of the Century. In this unit, we will discuss key inventions of the turn of the century as well as the move westward. We will learn about the transcontinental railroad and cattle drives. We will discuss some key economic concepts as well such as supply and demand. Please note that the social studies text book is available online and the students should have the username and password written in their agenda. The link to the test book is on the social studies page of this website. Our test over this unit will be September 26th. Homework tonight: Tonight students homework is to read "Brief #2" and complete a 3-2-1. We have done a 3-2-1 in class but I am attaching the directions below incase they "forgot" :).
