I hope everyone had a great 1st week of school! I know I was exhausted but I have loved getting to know everyone!
A few reminders:
Curriculum Updates: Blue Math: If your child is in Blue Math, we are working on whole numbers and order of operations. So far, we have covered multiplying whole numbers and reviewed place value. Please make sure your child is studying nightly. Our first unit test will be September 5th. Remember, quizzes are unannounced. Yellow Math: If your child is in Yellow Math, we are working on number fluency. In this unit we will review how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. This is a very rich unit that should be a review. If your child is struggling with computation, they need to practice at home and come see me in the mornings (during commons time) for extra help. We will also learn how to find the greatest common factor, least common multiply, and use the distributive property. Our test over this unit will be September 5th. Remember, quizzes are unannounced. Science: All students will work through the same science unit. We are learning how we classify plants and animals. So far, we have learned about vertebrates, invertebrates, and the different types of vertebrates (mammals, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and birds). We will learn about plant classification this week as well. Your child will also be bringing home a project. They have to choose their favorite vertebrate, research its characteristics, and create a resume based on a job they believe it would be good at. This project will be due next Friday, August 24th. Our test over this unit will be August 24th as well. Remember, quizzes are unannounced.
