Message from SGC Parents, The School Governance Council would like to examine ways we can help all parents be more involved at Dolvin. Please take this short survey to provide the council with valuable information about how to improve opportunities for parent volunteering. This Friday, April 12th, Team Dolvin will be hosing a Kids Night Out (AKA Parents night out!) Students may come back to school from 3:30-7:30 to play games, watch a movie, and eat some pizza and popcorn and hang out with me and other teachers on Team Dolvin! Milestone Testing Schedule: Please make sure students get a good nights sleep and eat a good breakfast. They will not have a snack until AFTER testing is complete for the day. Please try to get them to school by 7:30 each morning so they will be ready to go :) Monday April 15th: ELA 1= writing Tuesday April 16th: ELA 2 Wednesday April 17th: ELA 3 Thursday April 18th: Math 1 Friday April 19th: Math 2 Monday April 22nd: Science Tuesday April 23rd: SS Korean Parent Meeting at AMMS: Curriculum Updates
Blue Math: Blue math is working on Unit 6- Volume and Measurement. We have already learned about metric and customary measurements and how to convert measurements. Please note we will NOT be converting from one measurement system to another. We will be converting within systems such as centimeters to meters or gallons to cups. Next week we will work on finding volume of rectangular prisms. A few students have already taken this test and are moving on to unit 7. However, most students have not taken the test yet. The quiz will go home Tuesday and students must take the test by Friday. Yellow Math: Yellow Math has started unit 7, numbers and their opposites. In this unit, we will cover integers both positive and negative. We have already learned about ordering and comparing integers, and how to find opposites and absolute value. We will also go one step further and learn how to perform operations with integers. Quizzes will go home Tuesday and students will test on Friday. Science/SS: Due to milestones starting next week, we will be bouncing between Science and SS units. The science information we will cover will be over genetics and heredity. Students will learn about learned behaviors and instincts as well as how things get passed from generation to generation. For SS, we will learn about the 1970's 80's 90's and 2000's. We will learn about these through reading passages, books, readers theaters, and videos. Tests over this information will not be held until after ALL 5th grade milestones are complete.
