Important Dates:
September 11th:
Important class updates: BYOT- BYOT or "Bring your own technology" will be starting soon. Forms will go home tomorrow 9/11. Please have these returned by Friday. As soon as students return the form, they are welcome to bring their devices to school. We ask that they do not bring cell phones to be used in class. These screens are too small. Phones must stay in lockers and turned off. Students may bring in i-pads or laptops. If you have any questions about BYOT, please let me know! Lunch Visitors- When you come in to eat lunch with your child, please remember that this is quality time for you to spend with your child. We ask that you do not let them bring friends on the stage to eat with you. Thank you for your understanding. Conferences- It's that time of year again! Please sign up for a conference with your child's HOMEROOM teacher. We ask that you only sign up for a conference with their homeroom teacher at this time and if a meeting with their PM teacher is necessary, you contact the teacher directly to set up a time later. Below is the link to sign up for Ms. Greathouse's homeroom students: CONFERENCE SIGN UP Curriculum Updates: Blue Math- We are reviewing whole numbers and order of operations. We have covered multiplying whole numbers, reviewed place value and reviewed division strategies (partial quotients and long division). We have also reviewed the Order of Operations and how to translate and compare expressions. Please make sure your child is studying nightly. Our first unit test will be September 12th. The next unit we will cover will be over decimal place value and adding and subtracting decimals. Place value should be a review. Please make sure your child is studying at home. Yellow Math- We are reviewing number fluency. In this unit we reviewed how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. We also learned how to find Greatest Common Factor, Least Common Multiple, and how to use the Distributive Property. This is a very rich unit that should be a review. If your child is struggling with computation, they need to practice at home and come see me in the mornings (during commons time) for extra help. Our test over this unit will be September 12th. The next unit we will cover will be over ratios and proportions. We will also learn how to find unit rate and use unit rate to solve problems. Social Studies- We are working on our first Social Studies unit over the Industrial Revolution and the Turn of the Century. In this unit, we will discuss key inventions of the turn of the century as well as the move westward. We will learn about the transcontinental railroad and cattle drives. We will discuss some key economic concepts as well; such as supply and demand. Please note that the social studies text book is available online and the students should have the username and password written in their agenda. The link to the test book is on the social studies page of this website. Our test over this unit will be September 26th.
