I hope everyone has enjoyed the sunshine these last few days! I know I have!
I am working on updating grades this week. Please make sure to check TAC for updates by Wednesday. I apologize for the delayed update. BOOSTERTHON! Don't forget that Boosterthon donations and pledges will be taken throughout this week. We have created class incentives and the next incentive is lunch outside! We are only $2 per lap away from this (or $60)! Remember that these pledges directly help Dolvin get technology to use in our classrooms. Thank you for your continued support! Field Trip to AMMS: We will be going to Autrey Mill Middle School on March 6th (next Wednesday). We will be leaving the school at 8:45. Students will be given a snack of tater tots over at the middle school but will return to Dolvin for lunch. We are in need of 2 parent volunteers to accompany us on this trip. In order to chaperone, you must be available from 8:30-11:45 and have completed the volunteer requirements for Fulton County. Sign up to chaperone HERE. (chaperones can be from either my AM or PM class since all students will be attending the trip.) Music: Don't forget to purchase a recorder as we will begin our recorder unit in music soon. Curriculum Updates: Blue Math: We are working on unit 5, 2D shapes and their attributes. Test date over unit 5 will be Feb. 28th. Students will learn about the attributes of shapes and how they relate to each other in a hierarchy of shapes. While this unit has very little math "computations", students still tend to struggle with all of the reading that is required of them. Please make sure you are reviewing and help your child work through this unit. You can play a fun review game by following the following link: GAME CODE 345587 Ask your students to join game with this code at https://join.quizizz.com Yellow Math: We are working on unit 6 which covers Statistics. This is a difficult unit as it is one of the first times students will be dealing with statistics. Students will be required to analyze information and graph their information in order to draw conclusions. They will learn how to find measures of center including mean, median, and mode as well as graph using histograms and box plots. Please make sure you are reviewing and help your child work through this unit. So far, we have covered data distribution, frequency charts, relative frequency, and histograms. Our tentative test date over this unit is March 7th. Here are some helpful videos and practice questions from Khan Academy. Science: We are starting a new science unit this week over cells and microorganisms. This unit is very rich in vocabulary. Please make sure you are reviewing the vocabulary and concepts with your child. There are some great brainpops on cells and cell organelles. Below you can find a fun online quiz as well.
