Please read the information below regarding some important updates for this week. Pie Wars! This week is Pie Wars! This is a Relay for Life event where we will try to raise as much money as we can for the American Cancer society. For this event, students can bring money and put it in the teachers bin that they want to see get pied in the face! The teacher with the most money at the end of the week will get a big pie in the face :). Teacher bins for donations will be located on the stage in the cafeteria. Any and all donations are appreciated! (No foreign currency or chuck-E-cheese coins as we can not deposit those). Team Dolvin has participated in Relay for Life for many years. It is a group of dedicated teachers who create events to raise money for the Relay for Life event and American Cancer Society. Many of us are even willing to get pied in the face if it means raising money for cancer research! You can also donate online. If you would like it to go towards a teacher for Pie Wars, please include their name in the comments. You can donate at: www.tinyurl.com/TeamDolvin2018 Field Trip Feb. 21st. We will be going on a field trip on Feb 21st from 8:15-12. We are in need of 2 parent chaperones. We will be visiting the teaching museum to learn about some WWII events. If you would be able to chaperone, please sign up below. It is first come first serve. SIGN UP Middle School Placement: Today and in the coming weeks, you will be getting middle school placement forms home. If you have any questions regarding qualifications or your child's placement, please let me know! There will be a rising 6th grade meeting at the middle school on February 13th at Autrey Mill. A purple form came home today for Placement at AMMS. These forms are due back to me Friday, February 2nd. **The form has two choices for connections. --Option A is General Connections. Students will have one connections class consisting of Health (1 quarter) and PE (3 quarters). They will have another connections class consisting of a randomly assigned class (ex: art, music, computer science etc. for 4 quarters.) --Option B is Performing Music Connections. Students will have one connections class consisting of Health (1 quarter), PE (2 quarters), and a randomly assigned class (1 quarter art, music, computer science etc.) They will have another connections class of Band, Orchestra or Chorus (all 4 quarters). **The form has a choice for World Language or Reading. Based on specific qualifications your student may have the opportunity to take a foreign language in lieu of Reading. I have placed your child’s IOWA Reading and Milestones Reading scores on the paper to assist you in deciding what course to choose. Please mark your 3 choices of reading and/or world language. The middle school, as well as us at the elementary school are encouraging students to take reading if they need to strengthen their reading skills. Foreign language credits for transcripts do not start until 8th grade. These foreign language courses in 6th and 7th grade are beginning level and just introduce the language and culture. Students who take reading in 6thand/or 7th grade will still have the opportunity to take a foreign language the following year in middle school. Please consider the fact that even though students take a Language Arts class, this reading class will help assist in building foundations and strengthening their skills. This will be their last chance to build a firm foundation in the basics of reading comprehension and strategies. Curriculum Updates: Flipped classroom homework update: I have decided to continue to utilize this model in the classroom. Students seemed to enjoy it and I am seeing improvements in my ability to help students with an misconceptions quickly and in real time. If you have any feedback as well, please feel free to let me know! Blue Math: We have been working on Unit 5. In this unit, we learned about shape attributes.
