Grades Update and Strawberry LabGood afternoon students and parents!
Two quick updates and reminders: 1. Please check Infinate Campus to view updated grades. Our last two summative assessment grades were lab reports. Unfortunately, I did have some students who did no complete the lab report. This resulted in some low grades. If the lab reports are completed, please email me and I will update grades. These were very fun assessments for students and it is upsetting that some students could not have fun and complete the work at the same time. 2. Tomorrow, 4/30, we will be extracting DNA from a Strawberry! This is another very fun lab that will count as a formative assessment. After the lab, students will answer a few questions by writing the answers on the lab document for the formative assessment grade. This is a fun and easy lab that students can absolutely complete at home. Check out the details about the materials needed in my update from Monday. There is a great resource on how to complete the lab linked HERE.

Good Afternoon! We did it! Pig lab is done and was a huge success! I really believe I saw some future surgeons in our midst! Even those who were squeamish, learned! That is all you can ask for and we got it! To those kids and parents at home, I have seen some of the models and videos...exceptional work! We are now moving into our last unit on genetics. It really is such a fun unit and the kids love it! This week we start out with DNA. With that we have 2 labs. One is to see if there was a substitution in DNA and they are a taster or not. Be sure and ask them about it on Wednesday evening. The next one is where they will separate out the DNA from a strawberry...yes, real DNA and they will see it and hold it! I have attached the lab for virtual parents and kids. Please make sure that you have the items for the lab by Friday for your student to actively participate. Remote students can follow along with what we are doing in class. I will have my camera on demonstrating what we are looking at in the lab. This will be a formative assessment grade. The lab report and questions (attached) must be completed by all students. Please note these differences: No cheesecloth- use a coffee filter No funnel ; a cup instead (plastic small clear if possible) No vial craftstick (popsicle) Alcohol is isopropyl and needs to be 90% and cold For here at school, we are asking for donations for the following: paper towels (used them all during dissection) alcohol - isopropyl 90% small baggies that seal well Clorox wipes (again gone after pig lab) Good afternoon parents!
I have a few important reminders for next week when we are working on our pig dissection. Please see the reminders below that are relevant to your child. No matter how your child completes the lab, this will be a summative test grade. Face-to-Face Students: We will be doing the dissection on April 19-22nd. During those mornings and at lunch, please be aware of spicy things on their tummies. Try and give them a bland breakfast if possible. They can feel queasy sometimes the first couple of days. Make sure hair is back and clothes are not Sunday's finest. Students must also wear closed toed shoes to participate in the lab. I am so excited for this dissection!!!!! This is where all of my future scientists and doctors appear! Even kids not looking forward to it, suddenly become the experts on the human body! Remote Students: For Remote learners, I will have my camera on but you may or may not see a lot. You will have a different but similar activity to do. There are 2 packets that need to be picked up the week of the 12th-16th from the front office. It involves a 3D model the kids will have to make. Directions for remote students will be posted in an assignment in Teams that should be turned in on April 22nd. This is also a summative grade. I wish we could do on camera but its just not a good idea for us to do simultaneous when our f2f kids are using medical grade tools in the classroom and really need full attention. I hope everyone has an amazing, healthy, and safe spring break!I can't believe we made it to Spring Break 2021!!!!!! Please have a safe but amazing one. I do have a couple of things to share. The test scores from the test yesterday will be updated soon. Please look these over. If your student needs to retest that will be the first few days we are back f2f after Spring Break (April 15th-16th). I will send an email if your student will need to complete the reassessment before April 15th.
That first week back, we are all remote Monday through Wednesday (April 12th-14th). We will be learning about body systems. The kids will be doing a Minecraft building activity about the Human Body. If you or they do not want to do Minecraft, they will have a different activity to do about the human body. They will all also be working on their Egg Lab Write ups. This is a summative/ TEST grade and will be due on the 14th. We will be doing the dissection on April 19-22nd. During those mornings and at lunch, please be aware of spicy things on their tummies. Try and give them a bland breakfast if possible. They can feel queasy sometimes the first couple of days. Make sure hair is back and clothes are not Sunday's finest. Thank you all so much! Again, have a great spring break! We will begin our egg lab Monday, 3/29- Thursday 4/1Students and parents, We will begin our Egg Lab on Monday 3/29-4/1. This is a summative assessment grade. Remote students will either complete the lab at home (a list of supplies was sent out a few weeks ago) or will work with a F2F group here at school via Teams. Remote students can download the lab document attached below. We will also have a summative assessment over all of the Cell Processes we have learned about on Thursday 4/1. Last week, we began cellular transport. This is a difficult topic, so students should be reviewing vocabulary and concepts nightly. We will be learning about Photosynthesis on Friday using a 3D model of a leaf. Please download the document below and print out for your child to participate in the notes. 7th Grade Science will be doing a 3 day “Egg” lab starting on 3/29/2021. We have found that this lab really helps to bring the concept to life for them. While we will have the lab materials here at school for the kids here (and thank you so much for all the donations!), virtual parents will want to prepare and get these materials together for your student. These are the materials you will need: one egg sharpie water beaker/measuring cup vinegar light corn syrup string goggles Triple beam balance paper towels Ruler 3 clear cups lab apron You will not be able to use a Triple Beam Balance or a lab apron, everything else should be in your home or easy to get. For the TBB, virtual kids will not have to do the mass measurements. We will send the actual lab out the day of the lab. Thanks so much for all of your support and making science real life and fun! Cell Organelles and their FunctionsHappy Monday! We have been learning about Cell Organelles and their functions for about a week. We will have a Formative Assessment on these organelles and their functions on Wednesday 2/24. (Formative Assessments count as 40% of students grades and we do NOT reassess these) Here is a list of your required organelles that students need to know for their formative assessment on Wednesday 2/24- nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, cell wall, chloroplasts, lysosome, mitochondria, nuclear membrane, vacuole, ribosomes, endoplasmic reticulum, Golgi Bodies, chromosomes Study Materials are located in students OneNote- Content Library- Unit 4 Summative Assessment Project- Cell AnalogyStarting on 2/25, we will begin our next project which will count as a summative assessment grade. (Summative assessments count as 60% of student grades and are allowed to be reassessed once up to a 79%) You can find the project details below so you can better understand what is being asked of your student for this project. Cell Processes LabI hope students enjoyed our lab investigation on Friday! I know I myself had a lot of fun simulating the Cell Membrane!
We do have another lab (a 3 day lab) in two weeks, but we need some help with donations. If you can send in anything from the list, it would be great. If you can not, I understand as well. There will be no remote packet this time, but we will send home the lab in advanced next week so you may get the items if you wish your child to do this lab. We need: Corn syrup (light color) paper towels eggs (raw) dozen (actually several dozen needed) small clear cups dawn dish soap Thank you so much! Hello parents!I hope everyone had a great weekend!
Last week, we started our next unit on Cells and Body Systems. In this unit, we will be using music to help students learn and remember important concepts. On Friday, I tasked students with listening to our first song, Cells from other Cells over the weekend. If they did their job, your whole family should not have that song stuck in your heads. If your child spent time this weekend listening to the song, please email me so I can reward them with a Webb Way Ticket! We have our next assessments coming up over what we have learned so far in our cell unit. We will have a Formative Assessment on Friday, 2/5 and a Summative Assessment on Tuesday, 2/9. Helpful study tools can be found in students OneNote and on the Unit 4 page linked in the button below. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out via email! Hello parents and students!I hope everyone had an amazing winter break! I hope everyone had a chance to recharge and get ready for a great semester ahead! There will be a few Fulton County and Webb Bridge policy changes as we go into this semester regarding:
What is coming up in class?
Hello!I hope everyone had an amazing holiday break! We only have three short weeks until winter break. I am very proud of how my students have risen and taken on the challenge of simultaneous learning! Overcoming the challenge of learning in this environment can make students stronger learners. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please let me know! Take a quick look at our week ahead and a general overview of what our last three weeks of first semester looks like. * This week [11/30-12/4] some students will also be reassessing the Food Web Project (was due 11/16) and the Ecology 2 test (taken on 11/20). If they are not finished with these reassessments by Friday, they will be sent to the reassessment center on the following Monday.
12/7-12/11: Objective: Biomes 12/14-12/18: Objective: Review what we have learned in our Ecology unit with a project based on The Lion King. |
